My name is Jack Lilja. I enjoy working with people who are motivated to change. Making the decision to connect with a therapist is the most important first step in creating change. Working together, my goal is to help individuals of all ages, couples and families to overcome the obstacles that often block our ability to utilize the strengths that we all possess. You bring the expert knowledge of your own life into the therapeutic relationship and together we will use that knowledge to create your desired lived experiences for you and your family. I have a special interest in working with the people who are dedicated to helping others in need (First Responders, child protection workers, teachers) while often neglecting their own needs and the effects that can have on their own lives (PTSD, depression, anxiety, suicidality, relationship issues).
I am a Registered Psychologist, Canadian Certified Counsellor – Supervisor, and an EMDR Therapist. I work from a Solution-Focused, Strengths based perspective as well as a Narrative Therapy framework. Based on the therapy goals we will create together, I will utilize techniques from CBT, EMDR, Expressive Arts/Play and Family Systems Therapy to help you achieve your goals. I am also available to complete Psycho-educational assessments (for school, government funding, or employment) and Supervision for undergraduate and graduate students or those requiring supervised hours for their CCC designation with Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

Counselling has called to me because I believe that all people have potential and deserve to live the fullest life possible. I also know that the journey is not always easy, and we encounter barriers along the way. My goal is to help people overcome those hurdles and live whole-heartedly. I see this to be true for
adults and children, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs and all those traits that describe but do not define us. I have experience working with all populations and consider this an asset.
My most recent educational background provided me with a solid foundation in counselling practices and protocols such as, but not exclusive to cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness, self-compassion and self-regulation. I am a lifelong learner and have since been EMDR
trained, trauma therapy certified, and addiction certified. I have also completed level 1 of Gottman couples’ therapy training. What resonates with me most and I believe to be the root of all therapy is unconditional positive regard. My counselling practice is strength-based and person-centered.
